UK Government announces extension of the recognition of CE marking

UKCA

In a statement to Parliament on 2nd September, Rushanara Ali, the Building Safety Minister, provided an update that included the recognition of CE marking for construction products and updates to the statutory guidance to the building regulations to remove references to National Classes for fire testing standards. There was also a commitment to taking into account any recommendations from the forthcoming Grenfell Inquiry report to inform proposals for reform of the construction products regulatory regime.

The two main points of interest to DHF members made in the statement are as follows:

  • CE marking will continue to be recognised for construction products after the previously announced deadline of 30 June next year. If this situation changes, there will be a minimum two-year transition period
  • Classifications to BS 476 will be removed from Approved Document B of the Building Regulations for England. For fire resistance tests, there will be a five-year transition period.
